New “Moving Day” Gallery Up

Posted by Chris

I just finished uploading some pictures from our moving day (May 20, 2004). Thanks to Alec Hendryx for sending these to us! Of course our cameras were all packed away, so I appreciate the fact that someone shot some pictures of the day! You can see them by going to gallery.theedigers.com.

Tornado Near Miss

Posted by Chris

Well, today certainly made for an exciting day! We spent the morning with Andrea's dad and her aunt & uncle in Enid, OK, visiting the graves of her grandparents. It was nice to see Don & Georgia again & we all went to IHOP afterwards for brunch (very good!). We had seen on the news last night that there was a likelihood for some pretty nasty storms later in the afternoon, so we made sure & got back here early in the afternoon.

Some friends from Coffeyville, Stephen & Heather Heslip, were in town for a wedding & came by to visit for awhile. As we watched the weather on TV it became apparent that things were headed our way. We quickly started moving boxes so that we could get both vehicles in the garage, as they were predicting hail with the storms. Stephen & Heather headed for home after eating dinner together & Andrea & I kept tabs on the weather. The closer the storms got, the worse they got as well. To make matters worse they kept saying that the storms (tornadic by this time) were headed straight for us ... and I mean straight for us! They kept calling out the streets around us, so we cleared out a spot in our pantry, gathered a few supplies & hunkered down for about 30-45 minutes with the kids.

Andrea on Matthew 17

Posted by Chris

So here's the thing: I had three thoughts today after reading Matthew 17 this morning.

First: Jesus takes only 3 guys with Him. They go by themselves (vs 1). I wonder if the other disciples or followers of Jesus noticed. I wonder if they wanted to go too or asked to come along or maybe were envious that Peter, James and John got to go. Maybe they grumbled to each other about all the extra time Jesus spends with these 3 guys. What makes them so special?

SWBell Has it Right Now

Posted by Chris

We finally got around to letting Southwestern Bell know they were giving out our wrong phone number to everyone. The message is fixed now, so you can get our new phone number by calling our old one (if you don't have it already).

We’re Still Alive (& Well)!

Posted by Chris

Well, I thought I'd better post something here before everyone began to wonder if we had fallen off the face of the earth altogether. It has been a good, but crazy, week for the Ediger family. The week has been an adjustment all around - from me adjusting to my new job to Andrea adjusting to having me 25 minutes away instead of just next door. That coupled with continuing to unpack & get our house in order has made for one not-so-normal week. All in all it has been good, though.

Don’t Believe Southwestern Bell

Posted by Chris

Just checked our old number & discovered that Southwestern Bell is giving out a new number that isn't ours. Our apologies to those of you who have attempted to reach us to no avail. I have no idea who/where that number belongs. Our real phone number is listed to the right, for those of you who want it. I'm going to call Southwestern Bell on Monday & have them switch the message.

First Post in Oklahoma

Posted by Chris

Well, we're online! It took about a day and a half before we finally got our DSL up & running (thanks to Amber running a new phone line to where our computer is). Our house is a total wreck, but we're slowly making progress getting unpacked and adjusted. We've already made several trips to Wal-Mart, Lowes, & the ACE Hardware, and will probably go out again tonight or in the morning to get a few more things.

The final of our moving buddies, Alec, Amber & Sara, headed out this morning. My dad & Luke left yesterday morning. They did a fantastic job helping get us here. I think we cut at least a week off of our moving in schedule because of them. Loading, unloading, unpacking, moving furniture, fixing appliances, watching the kids, etc. - such a HUGE help! Thanks to all of the rest of you who came by the house in the last week or two and helped us in preparing to move ... especially to Pat McGuire & his crew for getting us packed into the moving van on Wednesday. I still can't believe we got all of it in there!

Well, better wrap this up. Seems my master dishwasher installation from yesterday wasn't so wonderful after all. Andrea started it up for the first time & turned around to find herself standing in a small puddle of water! Will type to you later!

Final Post in Kansas

Posted by Chris

Well, this is the last night I'm going to have a chance to post anything here while we're still in Kansas. We've got DSL set to be running in the first few days at the new house & I'm sure I'll post something by this time next week. I start my new job on Monday, the 24th, so at the very least I'll try & post something around that time to let everyone know how we're doing in our new surroundings. Thanks for all of your prayers as we get set to move.

If you haven't already, be sure & sign-up to get email updates when we post something here. That way you don't have to check back to the site very often - you'll know when there is something new to read. Fill in your email address & click the 'Subscribe' button on the left side of the screen to join our update list!

Exhausted & Exhilarated

Posted by Chris

Well, I'm sitting here with messed-up sinuses and an extremely worn-out body. We've had a packed last week or two & I think it is finally catching up to us. The nose thing is my own fault for cleaning out the shed yesterday afternoon. The rest won't return to normal for another couple of weeks probably - at least until we get into our new house & begin to settle in. Unpacking boxes is sure to be more leisurely of a process than packing them has been. We've still got work to do & we're quickly running out of work days to get it done. The plan is to pick-up the moving truck on Wednesday morning and then finish packing up the last things & load the truck all day. Then we'll get up the next morning & head out.

Rupert Won!

Posted by Chris

Well, just had to add my 2 cents worth in & say that Andrea & I were excited that Rupert won the 2nd million given away last week on Survivor. He wound up winning by a landslide (he received something like 85% of the vote). Can't wait until the new season begins next fall! Now we've just got Smallville (finale this Wednesday night) & American Idol (wraps up next week) left before our summer lull.

Give Rupert a Million

Posted by Chris

Well, it came down to the final two that no one wanted, but the reunion show made up for the lack of ending drama on Survivor: All Stars. Our man, Rupert Boneham, has one more shot at a million - head over to CBS.com now & vote for him to win the next million that will be awarded on Thursday night.

Retro Xbox

Posted by Chris

One of the elements of getting ready to leave my job at First Southern is getting all of the technological aspects of what I do here laid out for others to be able to carry out without me. I prepped the youth room Xbox for one of our youth workers, Alec Hendryx, to learn how to transfer games to the internal hard drive (we've got a mod chip installed to keep games from getting stolen from the room). We installed a few game emulators on it last night, just for fun, and had a blast playing Atari 2600 games like Combat, Space Invaders, Qbert & Pitfall on the Xbox unit. Too cool! Alec & I just laughed as we pulled each new game up & reminisced about the "good 'ole days." Nothing like playing an Atari game on a mammoth game system like an Xbox. The youth who witnessed it just rolled their eyes at us!

Emerie is One!

Posted by Chris

Well, today was a great day! Our baby girl turned one year old - it's hard to believe! We had her party outside because the weather was so great (except it was a little bit windy at times). All the boys (Si & Micah & cousins) played together inside, outside & around the house. We had a great time visiting with family & friends. Emerie was adorable (as usual). Everything just went great today.

We've got some pictures to post, but I've got to organize them a little. We'll get an album up in the next couple of days. For now this one will have to do. Thanks to all of you who came and made our day so special!

We’re Moving!

Posted by Chris

Well, as many of you have heard by now, we will be moving in a couple of weeks to Edmond, OK. The short version of the story is that Andrea & I have been praying over the course of the last year about new convictions & passions that God has been placing in our hearts. It has been a long journey, but one in which we know that God has opened a new door in our relationship with Him. I will be working for an Internet design firm, Multiply Media, and we will be involved with a group of house churches, Bridgeway, in Oklahoma City.

For the long, and more complete version of the story, read our "Letter to the Church" (PDF - Adobe Acrobat Reader required) that I read this past Sunday morning to let our church know.

Be in prayer for us over the course of the next few weeks as we prepare for the move & in the next few months as we transition to a new life and ministry.
