Site Update Coming Soon

Posted by Chris

I'm helping a friend setup a family blog like this one. I think I'm going to let him use this set-up design (with some graphic modifications) and change the set-up of theedigers.com a little. After adding a little here & a little there over the last year or two things have really gotten cluttered up. The new design will accent the key information & links and allow guests to browse through our lists (what we're reading, watching, listening to, etc.) without having all that information clutter the screen for those who really couldn't care less what our entertainment preferences are! Ha! Anyhow, the site update is not the highest priority on my list right now (with the move and all). It may wait until after we move, although I've already gotten a lot of the work done on it. We'll see. Be watching soon for the new & improved theedigers.com!

The Bi-Monthly Post

Posted by Chris

Man, I honestly am not getting lazy - things have just been hectic around the Ediger household over the last month - especially the last couple of weeks! After we accepted the LifeWay position we flew to Nashville for a house hunting trip that weekend. We spent 8 hours one day & 12 hours the next visiting homes (some of them several times) before settling on one that we really liked. We put in a bid for a contract & got accepted a few days later. Right now we are in the process of getting the home inspected & appraised, but things look really good. If all goes well this week we're hoping to be able to close on the house either the 15th or 16th with me starting work at LifeWay on the 16th.

Staying at the Union

Posted by Chris

Well, we've made final arrangements to fly out to Nashville this Friday to spend the weekend house hunting. Pretty exciting! On top of the general enthusiasm, we're also pumped about where LifeWay is putting us up during the trip - the Union Hotel in downtown Nashville! Check it out here

I got to stay at the Union a couple of years ago when I came out to LifeWay for a writers conference & it's the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in! Not sure how much we'll be able to enjoy it, though, as we'll be pretty busy looking for a house. A guy that I'll be working with at LifeWay (another Internet Producer for the Pastoral Ministries section) has a wife who is a real estate agent who we've called to help us find a place. I think we may try to have dinner with the two of them as well while we are there.

UPDATE: They took down the job description from LifeWay's website today, but you can still read it below on yesterday's post

Faith & College Students

"This study suggests that religion and spirituality can play a positive role in the mental and emotional health of students..."

Another no-brainer study released recently (we all knew, right?). Still good to hear other people are clueing in to the affects of faith in students lives.

Nashville-Bound!

Posted by Chris

Well, for some of you this isn't going to be the biggest news as you've already been in on part of the process. For the rest of you - we're moving to Nashville! I was offered a job with LifeWay today as an Internet Producer for the Publishing & Multimedia Services dept. Here's the job description from LifeWay's website (they'll probably be taking this down soon):

Position Title: Internet Producer

Department: Publishing Services & Multimedia

Responsibilities:

The person chosen for this position will develop Internet strategies and produce Internet content for student ministry areas of events and publishing. This individual must have an interest and strong understanding of the student audience and be able to edit Internet content subject to specifications and conservative evangelical theology. The Internet Producer must ensure the online materials are sensitive and relevant to critical issues of students, their leaders, and families. The Internet Producer's responsibilities will also include enlisting and training writers so that high quality student ministry online resources are available on time and within budget.

Requirements:

BS, preferably in multimedia or related field. Prefer master's degree from SBC seminary. Active participation in an SBC church. Minimum of 3 years church staff experience with student ministry. Strong internet skills are required. Passion for student ministry.

This past month has been a whirlwind for us since LifeWay first contacted us about the job & our interest in it. Richard Barnes, the Director of the dept., and David Hargrove, the Acting Director, flew to OKC to have lunch with Andrea & I a couple of weeks ago. We visited with them, found out more about the position and answered many questions from them. They then flew us out to Nashville the following weekend for the formal interview process.

I'm afraid a few paragraphs can't accurately convey everything that has taken place in the past few weeks. The bottom line is that God has dropped this opportunity into our laps & it is a job that is as close to a dream job for me at this point in our lives - something that combines my love for student ministry, computers/technology/Internet & writing! I'll be in charge of helping bring about a newly designed student ministry channel at LifeWay.com (to launch this Spring) & then act as managing editor for the site from that point on. I'll also have opportunities to serve as an Internet consultant of sorts for the Student Ministry Publishing department at LifeWay and work on other special projects as well. I'll be able to continue writing for LifeWay & others at the same time and continue my graphics work as well.

The move that far away is the biggest heartache by far. Really, it is the only thing that is bad about this position. It will be hard to be further away from friends & family, but we'll still be in a position to be able to visit. Plus, who wouldn't want to have an excuse now to come & see us in Nashville, of all places?!

Be praying for Andrea & I as we fly this weekend to Nashville again to look for a house. The kids are staying with our friends Mark & Trish Davis while we're gone (I'm sure they covet your prayers as well!). Pray that God will continue to direct our steps as He has through this entire process - and that He would direct us to a house.

Now that things are official we'll be keeping everyone updated on news right here on the site. If you haven't already, now is a good time to subscribe to our email list (at the top of the home page). Just enter your email address & hit the 'subscribe' button to begin receiving email updates the morning after we post something here. The number jumped quite a bit when we moved to Oklahoma and we'd love to have our friends and family here in the OKC area jump on to keep in contact when we move!

Thanks again to all of you who have been praying with us through this process. God is so good!

First Fire

Posted by Chris

Well, the cold weather has been a welcome change for our family. There's nothing like being in the late-fall/winter months and it being warm enough that you don't even need a jacket outside! I remember when we lived in Fort Worth & it was warm on Christmas, of all days! Anyhow, it has been nice to break out the sweaters and winter coats and enjoy the cooler weather. Looks like the cold (as well as the rain, at this point) will likely stay around for the near future.

We've enjoyed our fireplace over the past several days, building our first fire on Thursday night. We've done the same each night over the weekend, as well. We also began playing Christmas music on Thursday night (which really is a little late for those of you who know us well). Andrea added the tri-fecta when she surprised me by fixing a pumpkin pie! Listening to Christmas music by the fire while enjoying homemade pumpkin pie - what could be better?!

Incredibles Night

Posted by Chris

Andrea's dad called us yesterday afternoon & offered to take the family out to dinner & a movie. What a treat! We all met at the Quail Springs AMC 24 theaters after I got off work & went to see The Incredibles. The movies was GREAT! I'd proably pay to go see it again ... it was that good! Afterwards we all went to our favorite Mexican restaurant - Poblano Grill - for dinner. It was a great evening & a chance for all of us to spend time together doing something fun as a family. I can't remember the last time we had such a big evening with the fam. Anyhow, if you get a chance I'd highly recommend The Incredibles - you'll love it!

Testing Bloglet

Posted by Chris

I, personally, haven't gotten a Bloglet update for this site in a long time, so I thought I'd test things out. Checked the Bloglet site & everything appears to be set-up & working properly.

If you get an email update for this post please either email us or leave a comment on this post so I'll know things are working right. Thanks!
