A Typical Monday
Posted by Chris
Sure could tell today was Monday ...
I should have seen it from the beginning. I rolled out of bed this morning feeling not quite right. I couldn't put my finger on it, but things just didn't seem to be normal. In my half-awakened state I didn't realize what day it was. That was soon to change ...
It started when I got to work, already running a little behind schedule. I pulled into a parking space, turned around & realized I had left my laptop at home. Now when I worked next door to our home my forgetfulness wasn't that much of a problem. If I forgot something (like my laptop) I simply walked the 30 seconds it took me to get home & retrieve the abandoned object(s). Not so here. I turned around and began the 40 minute roundtrip trek to my home & back. I called Andrea and shared my mishap with her. Although a little perturbed with myself, I figured, "Oh well, I guess it's Monday." In reality, things were just getting started ... I decided to take a quicker route home via the Kilpatrick turnpike. I rarely travel this toll road as it doesn't save that much time & those nickels & dimes can add up quick (more like quarters). Unfortunately because of my inexperience on this road I misfigured the amount of the toll. Thinking my 85 cents would cover the assumed 80 cent mark I rolled into the toll booth to pay, only to discover that the toll was actually $1! I pulled over to the side & frantically searched the seat cushions and under the floor mats for any loose change - to no avail. I sucked up my pride, pulled up to the booth & asked the toll lady (not sure what the 'pc' title would be) if I could pull over & pay via check at the Highway Patrol office next to the the toll gates. She asked me how much I had & took my 85 cents & waved me through - which was lucky because I realized at the time of pulling my check book out that I had also forgot my wallet with my drivers license at home as well.
Did the quick turnaround at home & headed back to the office. I realized when I got into the office that although I had packed myself a nice sack lunch for the day, I had failed to pack a fork leaving me with nothing to eat it with! I had a 2:00p meeting with a client scheduled & decided to take a late lunch, drive home & eat my lunch, and then meet Jason at the meeting at 2:00p. Good plan - unfortunately my retrieved laptop didn't have enough battery life to make it until 1:00p or so & I, you guessed it, I had forgotten the power supply at home as well. I worked until my laptop literally shut itself off (around 11:00a), packed up & headed home for an early lunch (instead of a late one). My refigured plans were to eat my lunch, head to the local Panera Bread (free wifi) & work from there before my meeting (rather than driving all the way back across town to only have to travel back to the nearby meeting location). I got home & realized I had left my lunch at the office.
Things actually got better from there ... up until about five minutes ago when Andrea came in & informed me that a pen I had accidently left in my shirt pocket got black ink all over a load of laundry. I'd better just go to bed & get this day over with ...
