All About Michael Moore
Posted by Chris
Been hearing a lot about "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's newest pseudo-documentary - from news stories, commercials, tv shows, emails ... you name it. I honestly don't care either way about the film. I don't have anything against the film or Michael Moore personally. I do think as a filmmaker he does a great job of putting together films that support his opinion. But that's just it - it's his opinion.
I think there is something not right about believing everything you hear in the media - whether it be from the left or right. People ought to have learned by now that there is no such thing as "unbiased coverage." Sure, news outlets can do their best to cover what happens in our world from a neutral position, but what we see/hear invariably is going to be at least a little bit skewed because they are shown/told by fallible people like you & I.
Probably the best thing that I have heard in reaction to F9/11 is from Ebert & Roeper. Roeper said "All documentaries have a point of view ... I'm not saying that every single frame of this film is the gospel, but I'd sure like to see a conservative filmmaker make a rebuttal movie." Both film critics wound up giving a thumbs-up to the film, not so much because they agree 100% with what came across on the screen, but more so because they feel it is a well-written & directed movie.
I'm not planning on seeing it, simply because there are enough other good movies out right now that I'd rather fork over $7 to go see. Maybe when it comes out on DVD ... who knows. There is another film on the horizon that intrigues me even more. It is entitled "Michael Moore Hates America" and is directed by independent filmmaker Michael Wilson. I don't when it will hit theaters, but it's sure to cause a stir, just as F9/11 has. From the MMHA site:
Contrary to its title, Michael Moore Hates America isn't a hatchet job on the filmmaker. It's a journey across the nation where we meet celebrities, scholars and average folks alike, and we find out whether the American Dream is still alive! In the process, we'll look at Michael Moore's claims about the country, its people, and our way of life.
