All Wired Wrong

Posted by Chris

We spent the weekend painting our dining room & kitchen. One of the list of things we'd like to do around the house throughout the summer. It was fun, but a lot of hard work. I am the King of Underanticipation. I ALWAYS think things will not take as long as they do. Take for instance our painting project. If you would have asked me on Friday how long it would have taken, I would have probably told you a day - we'd definitely be done with it by Saturday night. Of course when you add in the removing things off the walls, the filling the holes, taping everything, painting the trim, painting a second coat of trim, rolling the walls (thank God for one-coat paint!), removing the tape, touching up where the tape pealed the new paint off the wall, re-hanging everything... it took just a tad bit longer than that! :-)

We wound up finishing Monday evening - HA! Actually, Andrea is still doing the last of the touch up painting, so I guess we're technically not finished yet. Part of my job in this painting endeavor is switching out all of the light switches & power outlets with new matching switches/plugs. The power outlets - no problem. The light switches - a different matter altogether.

I reached one point of frustration on Sunday where I threw up my hands & declared I was finished with wires for the day. We had to literally go down into the garage & flip the breaker switch for the kitchen lights before we went to bed because none of the light switches in the room worked!

I finally got things wired correctly on Monday and the rooms look great. It really was a good process, though, as Andrea & I worked side-by-side (something we don't get to do as much anymore), played with the kids, grilled out, listened to country music & just enjoyed the weekend.
