Calling All… Well, Everyone
Posted by Chris
We're looking to launch our new young adult community groups the week after labor day in September. As I've shared consistently over the last several months in our existing group, this, in my eyes, is & will continue to be the cornerstone ministry as we seek to reach out to young adults. We have seen people's lives changed, new friendships formed, needs met, and heart-felt prayer lifted up in the short time we have been meeting already. I hope you have been part of this impact and have seen how God has used our community group to make a difference in your life. Can you imagine when we are able to offer this same kind of environment & life-change impact to 3x-4x as many people!
This multiplication process won't happen by itself, however. We need many of you to step forward & offer your hand in helping these new groups form. Here are several ways you can help...
This multiplication process won't happen by itself, however. We need many of you to step forward & offer your hand in helping these new groups form. Here are several ways you can help...
- Lead a Community Group - You ('you' plural, if you are married) can be a leader of one of these new groups. This may seem like a daunting task, but I assure you that it is probably not as involved or difficult as it may seem. It does take a commitment to be a part of the group both during your weekly/bi-weekly meetings, to take a few minutes before each meeting to look over the Bible passage/questions you will be using during your group time (which we will provide for you), and a bit of organizational leadership in getting everyone together & leading when you are together. Andrea & I have been leading this group in the midst of an already busy life, just like all of you have - balancing a full-time job, managing a family/home, school, sports, other commitments, etc.
Time Commitment: The normal 1-3 hours weekly/bi-weekly (for the group time)
Additional Group Leader Time: 1 hour/meeting
30 minutes/meeting Bible study prep time, and approx. 30 minutes/meeting to communicate with group members (when you add up the time I email menus, prayer requests, etc.)
- Host a Community Group - You may not be the 'leader' type, but you can offer your home for a group to meet in. We are looking to plant groups in communities other than where we are currently (which is Hermitage & Murfreesboro) - especially in Mt. Juliet, Lebanon & Gladeville because of the amount of young adults from Gladeville who live there. You don't have to have a huge house, although you'll need some larger room in your home where the group can meet. Having a separate part of the house for childcare is a plus, but not necessarily a necessity (especially if you host a group for those without kids :-) ). You don't have to have a spotless house each time the group meets, as well. Andrea & I try to pick up so everyone doesn't trip over kids toys (although we typically leave toys out that are already in the kids rooms). Don't do a spring/summer/fall, etc/ cleaning unless you need/want to.
Time Commitment: The normal 1-3 hours weekly/bi-weekly (for the group time)
- Seed a Group - We will be getting the word out to over 200 young adults associated with Gladeville about all of the community groups available in the fall. However, we're looking to some of you to say that you will step out & be a part of one of these new groups & help get it started. It would be good to have a few people plugged into each of the new groups who are already familiar with the way that community groups work. This will also be a support to those who are leading and/or opening their home for the new groups.
