Fast Friday

It's been a good week. Seems like the holiday was a two-edged sword: making things pretty busy this week because I had lost a workday, but also making the week get over quicker for the same reason! It felt good to be driving home this afternoon knowing the weekend was at hand. Of course it helped that I was cruising down the highway listening to the new Switchfoot album set to come out next week (just got it in the mail today)! We had a great Labor Day weekend. Spent last Saturday cleaning out the garage, Sunday relaxing & Monday going to the Zoo with the Craig family. The rest of the week was good - had a HBO free preview weekend last weekend so our TiVo is stocked up with good movies to watch. The only downer was yesterday morning on the way to work. There must have been a major car wreck on the Interstate as it was backlogged for miles. All the people who are smarter than I (and have lived here longer and know other ways to get around) got out of it before it hit hard. I, unfortunately, did not. What is normally a 30 minute commute into work turned into a 2 hour commute! It wasn't terrible, as I spent some time praying, some time listening to my iPod, some time listening to NPR coverage of the Hurricane aftermath, and some time talking with Andrea on the phone. It was still a little exhausting, however, sitting in a non-air conditioned standard vehicle which has a tendency to overheat. I survived. Tonight we had Josiah's second soccer practice (his first game is tomorrow morning). Micah went with me this time. He likes to come along & kick the soccer ball around with me while Si is practicing. We were taking a sack dinner break when Micah, who had been climbing around on a concrete walking path sign, took a bad spill. I immediately knew it was more than a minor scratch once I tilted his head back. It was only about 3-4 feet off the ground, but he must have caught his chin on the corner of the concrete column on his way down. There was a pretty good sized gash under his chin. I ran him into the restroom & got some cold water in a rag to hold onto it. We pulled Si out of practice early and headed home, phone in hand with Andrea. Long story short - we found an RN at the home school kick-off event (being held at a church close to our house) who took a look at it & we decided against making an ER run for stitches. It will take some time to heal, and will definitely scar, but he is doing fine now. We even were able to come about an hour late to the kickoff event & he had a big time playing (as did Josiah & Emerie) with the other kids on the playground.
Tomorrow we have Josiah's soccer game in the morning, and then we will be doing a little housework in preparation for Andrea's dad, Gary, arriving sometime on Sunday. We're looking forward to having him here for a week (he flies out a week from Sunday). We'll spend Sunday relaxing & enjoying the day before another week begins.
