Forced to Write
Posted by Chris
I'm typing this from the floor of our new office space. We just signed a new lease on a little bigger space in the same office complex where Multiply's office have been. It's a good thing they went ahead and gave us keys to the new office (even though we're not officially leasing the space until next week) as the doors to our wing were locked this morning when I got to work. I've been coming in a little early this week to try and get some writing done and this is the first time that I haven't been able to get to our offices. Luckily I've got access to this space and am parked on the floor for another hour or so until someone gets downstairs unlocked.
I'm forcing myself to write this, in a way. I have been overwhelmed with work (self-induced, of course) over the last week or so. Last weekend Andrea went to Grand Lake with some of her girlfriends and I was busy playing with the kids and doing some graphics work (www.avisualplanet.com) when I had the chance. I'm also right in the middle of a 5-week assignment with LifeWay to develop Student EXTRA! online Sunday School supplements for the month of August. If that wasn't enough to keep me busy (which it is) I also have another writing assignment due this week writing devotional material for LifeWay's student devo magazine ec. Once Friday is here & gone I'll finally breath a deep sigh of relief. Until then it seems like every free moment has been devoted to writing for work. I told Andrea last night I have been wanting to post some things here, but haven't felt like I could allow myself to write for pleasure until my work writing was done. Well, I finished a major chunk of work last night & I can't get into my office this morning so this seems to be as good a time as any! Our life in summary ...
WORK - Might as well start here. Like I said before, we are moving into our new space this week. It will have more work space for Jason & I and room to receive clients as well. We've had to use shared conference space in the past or just meet people at an outside location (or at their offices) if we needed to meet for some reason. While a majority of my work will consist of talking with people outside of the offices it feels nice to be able to have a little stretching room for now. We're only planning on being here for a year and then will probably move out of this building & into some larger space again. Depending on the work inflow we might have another person or two hired by then.
KIDS - The kids are doing great. One thing that amazes me is that none of them have really been sick all summer. I'm sure not being around a lot of other kids (school) helps some and the warm weather helps as well. Whatever the reason it has been nice to have well children (which is an exception for us, it seems). Josiah finished swim lessons last week. Micah & he are both into building marble towers right now. Si, of course, is into computers (as always). Micah most of the time would rather color , draw, or paint then have his small allotment of computer time. We've been playing the card game Mille Bornes (sp?) quite a bit lately as the boys really like it. Emerie is as sweet as ever. She still isn't walking a whole lot, although she likes to stand up & laugh every once in awhile. We have a few walking toys that she has discovered & zooms around the room with these. She is cutting four teeth on the top which will make six teeth in all once they come in.
CHURCH - We're going to house church tonight at a different couples house (same group). Every four weeks they have a 'party' or social night. We're grilling hamburgers tonight (if the weather permits). It will be good to just visit & let the kids play together as we're still trying to get to know everyone.
ANDREA & I - We started back on Weight Watchers again a couple of weeks ago. I think each of us have individually lost 4-5 lbs over that time (which is good considering it has been difficult to count points on the weekends because of everything we have had going on). Our 9th anniversary is tomorrow. I think we're going to try and go out for awhile tomorrow night. We sort of celebrated a couple of weeks ago when the boys were at my dad's in Kansas. The plan has been to take carry out to the lake where we had our first date & where I proposed. It's just north of Edmond. I'm not sure if we will be able to do this or not as it looks like it might be raining tomorrow night. At the very least we'll go out & eat and possibly get dessert/coffee somewhere.
Well that's our life in a nutshell. Plenty more happening, but most of it is pretty uninteresting. I'll get back on my blogging routine after my Friday deadlines are met. If I have some profound revelation (or just feel like chatting) I may post between now & then. We'll see how the rest of the week goes.
