Hayrides, S’Mores & More!

Posted by Chris

We're in the midst of a busy set of days. Wednesday night at church we went to a family fun night hosted at a local 'Turkey Farm' that someone in the church owned. They had hotdogs, a hayride, a horse-drawn carriage rides, games, worship, etc. Si rode the kids bus with the group from the church while Micah & I drove there on our own. We had a great time.

Thursday night was another 'Fall Festival', of sorts, with our homeschool co-op. Another hayride, roasted hotdogs, S'Mores, hot cocoa, pumpkin carving contest, candy hunt & more. Then last night was Si's soccer practice followed by our friends, the Webbs, coming over for dinner & the evening. Today was soccer game at 9am, Upward Basketball skills assessment at 10am, and then back to the house. The boys had their neighborhood friend Luke come over for a few hours to play while Andrea & I cleaned out the van.

Tomorrow is church. Monday I'm working from home so I can attend the boy's programs at their homeschool co-op and then I think we're finally done with the busyness. It's been busy, but in a good way. It feels nice to be around people we are getting to know - many more than we would have even a few months back. We still have a long way to go in establishing relationships with others, but we've got a good start after being here for 10 months now (hard to believe it's been that long!). On a separate note, watched the heartbreaking game between USC & Notre Dame today. I was pretty disappointed - especially with how close Notre Dame played it. Can't believe that it came down to a forced fumble out-of-bounds with 7 seconds left that I'm sure Notre Dame wishes now that they hadn't caused it. I've got to give Matt Leinhart & USC credit, though. They certainly played to win the game & deserved it. I can't see anyone beating them out the rest of the year - especially if (I hate to even say it) Texas gets into the national championship game with them. No way that Vince Young and crew can handle the Trojans, in my opinion.

Another side-note: we officially broke out our first Christmas CD of the year. I think this might be the earliest we have begun listening to Christmas music since Andrea & I have been married, although we have many times begun right after Halloween. I've been getting some new Christmas CDs in at work from labels wanting me to review them on the website, so my curiosity finally got the best of me. I'll try and post some samples along with some thoughts on any seasonal CDs I get in so you'll know what is coming out in the next month or so for the holiday season.

Well, enough scatterbrained-ness. The boys are out of the shower & we're to start watching the OU game with them for a little while before they go to bed. Boomer Sooner!
