I Smell Like Burnt Popcorn

Posted by Chris

No, there's nothing wrong with your email. I know some of you have been wondering since you haven't received an email update from our site in a few weeks. Rest assured, it is my laziness in large part, not your email, which has contributed to this brief hiatus. It's actually laziness coupled with the real sense that it is hard to make myself sit down at the computer long enough to do anything, let alone post something here, when I sit in front of/work on the computer all day every day. Computers used to be much more of a hobby than they have been lately, that's for sure. Anyway - on with the update. First on the matter of burnt popcorn... can I just say that today has been one of those days. Got up, got off just a little late this morning for work, forgot my wallet, forgot my lunch, made it until about 1pm before I took my lunch hour only to realize I had forgotten my wallet & lunch, tried popping some popcorn to get me through until I came home only to have my popcorn go up in smoke (I swear I set the time correctly) and gas everyone on our floor out, worked late, still working (more on that in a little bit), Andrea is not feeling good, kids have been, well, kids, and so on. We're getting set to launch the new student ministry channel at LifeWay tomorrow - something that was a huge part of the reason they brought me on almost a year ago. After much (much, much, much) waiting, it is finally here - and I'm still trying to make some last minute adjustments. I'll feel a little sense of relief after everything rolls out in the morning, hopefully.

We had a great Halloween. Si was a knight, Micah was batman & Emerie was a ballerina. We did a quick round through our neighborhood (all of 4 homes) before loading up & heading over to our friends Craig & Barbara's neighborhood to Trick or Treat. Kids had a blast and it felt good to be walking around with the kids and not packed in some church gynasium for our fourth 'Fall Festival' or walking around a circle of cars at a 'Trunk or Treat' - came close, but that just doesn't feel like Halloween to us. Kids have more candy than they can possibly eat (with our rations) between now and Christmas, probably. Of course we're helping them a little here and there :-).

Church has been going well. I had an opportunity to help lead worship playing keyboards with the praise team during our 2 services last week. Also taught all the adults during Sunday School (300-400) while the teachers met with our Sr. Associate Pastor. Also had a chance to teach the senior high youth a week and a half ago - which Andrea & I really enjoyed being a part of. Can I just say that I am loving our church?! I truly miss it when we have to be out of the worship service because of working in Extended Session with the 5 year olds. We're beginning to meet some more people and having opportunities to be a little more involved. I've met everyone on the staff and feel so good with the leadership and where the church is headed. It's not perfect - but it is good, and that can be saying a lot these days with so many churches lying stagnant or dying. I'm glad God led us to Gladeville.

Well, so much more I could probably chat about, but it's already 8:30pm and I've got more work to do before I hit the sack.
