Lately with Micah

Posted by Chris

Micah has a new favorite word. It's one of the many things I love about him... the fact that he'll pick something like a word or phrase... he'll like the way it sounds or the way it feels when he says it and he'll use it as often as possible over the course of several weeks until a new one comes along.

His favorite word right now is - bacon. We think it might have come from Veggie Tales' Lord of the Beans, but we just figured this out a few days ago. He'll say 'bacon' when you are least expecting it. "Micah, what do want for a snack?" M: "Bacon!" "What kind of tree do you think that is?" M: "Bacon?" or M: "Mom, what's for dinner? Bacon?" He thinks it is too funny. It makes us laugh, too (most of the time). Micah brought home a small stuffed lizard from a birthday party last month. He named it Mr. Bacon. That's his name - promise. You can't make this stuff up. Even Emerie knows who Mr. Bacon is and calls him by name. Micah took Mr. Bacon with him to a church event we went to at a restaurant a few weeks ago. The kids were doing activities with some teens in another area. When Chris went to pick Micah up he was all in tears. "He lost Mr. Bacon," reported one of the youth, "We're still looking, though." The youth went up to the children's minister on duty that night, "We can't find Mr. Bacon." Her: "Who?" .... She called us on our cell phone when we were half way home to report that they had found Mr. Bacon. Micah was thrilled to retrieve him from her office that Sunday.

Last week the boys made a zoo in their room. I was told that the star of the zoo was Mr. Bacon. "You can buy him for $100," Micah told me. "That's a lot of money," I said, "I'll have to save up for him." A few minutes later Micah returns with Si and reveals, "Did you know you can buy Mr. Bacon for less than $50?" Me: "Really...?" Micah: "Yeah. And did you know that he is the best church-preaching lizard, the best basketball lizard, and just the best lizard?" Me: "I had no idea." Si then adds: "AND he's good at math... (to Mr. Bacon) what's 4 minus 1?" Micah (in a Mr. Bacon voice): "3." Si: "See?"

How can you not buy Mr. Bacon? I paid the man the 'less than $50' and then proceeded to pay him to care for Mr. Bacon since I had no idea how to care for such an amazing lizard.

I hope there are still many "Mr. Bacon"s in Micah's future. I will be sad when the days of favorite words and phrases are no longer....when I won't find his latest new favorite treasure in the bottom of my washing machine because I forgot to check his pockets. It's one of those times when I'm so thankful that he is at home with us and has the precious commodity of the time to spend with the likes of Mr. Bacon.
