Mandisa Is Not Enough

Posted by Chris

I’m pathetic. (Please stop applauding)

I’m not a big chapel guy. I had to go when I was in college (due to going to a Christian university, Southwest Baptist University). I began sinking away when I was in seminary, hiding in my cubicle to get work done. Now that I’m at LifeWay, chapel has become one of those “go a few times a year” occurrences once again.

I have to give props to LifeWay, though, as they really do a pretty good job of getting some good chapels together (thanks to my friend, & co-Gladevillian, David Hassell). Today was case in point. Mandisa (yes, that Mandisa) was in chapel this morning performing & sharing her story of participating in American Idol. I was tempted - very tempted to skip my normal Friday routine, at least for a bit, and head downtown to hear her. Added draw is that they were selling pre-release copies of her soon-to-release CD at deeply discounted rates to LifeWay employees (she used to work at LifeWay FYI).

I thought about it, but couldn’t do it.

I admitted to my lovely wife that I’d drive downtown & break my normal Friday routine in a heartbeat to see Mandisa. What I couldn’t bring myself to do was dress up just to drive downtown for a 30 minute chapel.

I know - I’m pathetic.
