Movie Night… Again
Posted by Chris
One of the things that Andrea & I have always loved to do together is watch movies. Seems like we don't get a lot of chances anymore - especially with kids. By the time the boys are in bed (Emerie goes to bed earlier) it is usually late enough that we're getting pretty tired & too late to begin a movie most nights. So our movie nights are mostly confined to the occasional movie date night that we take by ourselves, with friends, or with the family (saw Meet the Robinsons a couple of weeks ago when Gary was here - GREAT movie!).
This week we're making up for not having watched a movie together in awhile. Andrea gets on the Davidson County library website and puts hold requests on books, movies, music, etc. She's begun doing this for movies. Takes awhile for newer movies, but it's really cool when your turn comes around. We have a few movies that hit our turn this week. We watched World Trade Center last night. Pretty good movie. Brought back a lot of memories. Kind of neat seeing the whole thing happening from a totally different perspective (the movie revolves around two Port Authority policeman who are trapped under the collapsed towers after going in to help evacuate people). Was a bit slow at times - of course there isn't much to do when your two main characters are pinned underneath rubble some 20 feet down from the surface for most of the movie :-) I was glad we saw it, though, and I think Oliver Stone did a good job with the movie.
We watched Failure to Launch tonight. Again, pretty cute movie. There were some parts that definitely had us laughing out loud (a lot of these, in fact). There were some pretty corny, 'this doesn't make any sense'/'I'm not sure why they put this in the movie' kind of moments, too - which kept this from being a really good movie. Good concept/story. Actors did a good job. I told Andrea it was worth the rental - of course that's not saying a lot since we got it for free from the library :-) I still would have paid to rent it, though. Wouldn't have paid to see it in the theater, though.
We have a couple more movies on tap. I just rented/downloaded Mission Impossible III from Amazon's new Unbox online video feature. They paired up with TiVo last month to offer downloadable movies/TV shows for TiVo owners & were giving away $15 free rental credits for TiVo owners who signed up. Been looking for a decent movie to spend some of the credit on. I've liked the Mission Impossible series (loved the first one, especially) - so I'm sure I'll like this one.
