Our Little Graduate

Posted by Chris

Well, Micah has officially finished with preschool as of earlier today. We went to his graduation at the church last night and he had a great time performing. He kept telling people that it was "my special day" and that meant that he could do whatever he wanted (in a cute way)! We went to Dairy Queen afterwards for the celebratory Dilly Bar and then headed back home.

Got some cute video. Took some pics with our non-digital camera as well. Our friend Craig took pictures of Micah with their digital in exchange for my videoing Gracie, their preschooler. I'll post some pics (and hopefully video) when we get those. I've got some good video from the program & earlier from Emerie's birthday, but it is no small task to get them up here, unfortunately. I have to use our old computer which has been relegated to the garage (yes, we have a computer in the garage - we use it to store TiVo videos to watch/burn off later, and I use it for a test web server when I am working from home - among other things). Anyhow, still have our analog camcorder which means I have to real-time capture the video/audio onto the computer, transfer it over the network to our good computer, trim it up, and then convert it to a WMV file to make it streamable. It's hard to motivate myself to get out there & do it, but I will try as soon as I can. I'm actually more motivated to go out & buy a digital camcorder so I won't have to mess with it, but since we don't have several hundred dollars laying around just waiting to be spent I guess I'll have to wait.

I worked from the house today so that I could go with Andrea, Emerie & Micah to his preschool picnic at his teacher's home in Mt. Juliet. We had a great time. We have loved his teacher SO much and have been amazed at the kinds of things that Micah has been learning about at this level. Among other things, he knows the four things that plants need to grow, he has learned about Arachnids and other insects, and I can't count the number of memory verses he has learned over the past few months. She is such a sweet woman and has been such a blessing to Micah, and to us. We told her today that she couldn't retire anytime soon until after Emerie has had a chance to be in her preschool class in a couple of years.

It has been nice having the freedom with LifeWay, and more specifically the department I work in, to have the ability to work out-of-the-office when needed. I haven't done it a lot, but it has been nice to have on days like today when I want to be able to spend that extra time with the family, or when Andrea has needed me to be at home with the kids so she could go somewhere, etc. LifeWay continues to be a blessing and I am enjoying working there so much! Still a 'dream job' that I have a hard time believing God has brought me into. But it really shouldn't surprise me knowing how gracious He has been to us in the past!

I've also begun writing again. I'm writing for LifeTrak, a Sunday School youth curriculum I have written for a couple of times in the past. It feels good to be writing again as I really haven't done much since we left Oklahoma. I had been writing a monthly 'technology in music' article for LifeWay.com for about a year before the move to TN, as well as other articles/curriculum here & there. It will be nice to get back into the writing aspect of my job here as we hope to have the new Student Channel launched by July (cross my fingers). This will give me the opportunity to write & edit on a weekly basis more so than I have been doing since coming to LifeWay. I'm looking forward to it. It has been a little difficult getting into the swing of things again, writing wise, but refreshing, nonetheless.
