The Birthday Boy

Phew - what a big day! I got up at the same time, but rushed in getting ready & out the door so I could make it to LifeWay by 6:00a. Took a shorter lunch so that I could leave early to celebrate Micah's birthday. He was soooo excited! He's literally been counting down the days for probably the past month and a half, it seems! Yesterday he kept saying, "One more day until my birthday!"
We stayed up last night getting presents wrapped, finishing his Spider-Man birthday cake & putting up decorations. Andrea had bought him a "Birthday Boy" blue ribbon to wear for the day. Because today was a holiday both of the boys were home. Andrea brought them downtown to meet up with me at LifeWay early afternoon. It was a treat for them to see where I work upclose & everyone in my department was so good to wish Micah a happy birthday! We took him to Jillians, a big Chuck-E-Cheese style place, but on steroids! This place has everything! Huge arcade, virtual bowling, real black-light bowling alley, billiard rooms, big screen & wall-TVs everywhere, sushi bar, even a dance club! We just bowled one round together & had a great time! The alleys were cool. You could set the bumpers to come up/go down depending on each bowler - which let Andrea & I bowl regular & the boys to bowl with the bumper pads up.
We then let him choose between "Aquarium" or "Rainforest" restaurant (in Opry Mills - HUGE mall next to the Grand Ole Opry). He chose Aquarium & we ate at "The Aquarium Restaurant" - probably the coolest eating establishment I had been in in a long time! It was made like you were underwater, with corral walls, fish lights hanging from the ceiling & a GIANT saltwater aquarium rolling around in the middle of the room with all kinds of fish - including sharks, stingrays & more! It was so cool!
Came back to the house & lit the candles on the cake & sang happy birthday. Then he opened presents (& played with them a little bit). We had bought him a new bike with training wheels & he just had to get outside & ride around for a few minutes in the freezing cold. He was thrilled!
All in all it was a wonderful birthday experience for Micah. It still didn't feel right not having family & friends here, but it was as good as it could be. It will be nice to spend the weekend with my dad & Cheryl & Andrea's dad who will be with us from Friday-Monday.
Tomorrow Andrea & I are supposed to go out for dinner for her birthday. Emerie has been sick the past couple of days, so we'll see how well she is doing before we decide what to do ourselves. Some friends of ours are watching the kids for us & already volunteered to come over here if necessary to watch them if she isn't doing well. I'm hoping she is and that we can enjoy the day.
