The End of a Long Week/Weekend
Posted by Chris
This has been an exhausting week. With the kids getting sick (at three different times), and Andrea being sick over the weekend (she just started feeling better last night), it has been a mess.
We were feeling pretty good about things yesterday afternoon. I had taken the kids to Josiah's soccer game first thing in the morning, we had hung out at the house after that over lunch/finished working on a small (very small) garden patch for Andrea & the kids, and then took Micah to his game in the middle of the afternoon. Coming home, Josiah was complaining about his stomach being upset. Got home & he indeed spent some time in the bathroom (trying to give you the sanitized version of the story :-) ).
Then he spent about half an hour complaining on the couch about his stomach hurting. This was all pretty strange because he had been acting fine all day long and hadn't experiencing any sickness-related symptoms for at least 24 hours. He wound up getting sick again in what will go down in the Ediger history book as probably the worst vomiting experience I have ever experienced. Got him cleaned up (and the bathroom - I'll spare any more details) and he instantly started acting fine. He put his pajamas on and laid in bed a little while (so we could make sure it wasn't going to happen again). When we checked on him a little while later, he was complaining about having a lot of mosquito bites. We looked at him & realized his face, neck, chest, back, arms & legs were red in patches, with bumps forming! We made him jump into the shower & wash off, and then put some Benadryl skin gel on him and put a call in to the doctor. Wound up just giving him liquid Benadryl & sending him to bed.
He woke up this morning as normal as could be - with no trace of redness/bumps/anything! We're not sure what he had the allergic reaction to, or if it had been something he breathed, ate, or touched. He hadn't done anything out of the ordinary during the day, and hadn't eaten anything new, either. We're just glad it passed quickly and we're none the worse - apart from it pretty much capping the end of an exhausting week at the Ediger household.
I'm just glad it all got through the weekend before my dad & Cheryl are coming to visit. I have managed to escape the flu bug up until this point (cross my fingers). Of course my hands are a little worn from washing them so much :-) I've almost been carrying a Lysol can around with me - spraying everything that might be infected. Here's to hoping it continues this way & we manage to keep our house bug-free for awhile!
