The Run is Over

Posted by Chris

Well, I'm heartbroken tonight. I sat down to watch my beloved Jayhawks silence the critics (at least around here) who kept saying they would find their end with UCLA. I wound up fast-forwarding through most of the second half (thankfully with TiVo I didn't have to sit through the entire game gut-wrenched) and turned the game off altogether with a little more than 3 minutes left to go and the point margin with UCLA up by 8.

I didn't know if they had it in them to pull it off and dig themselves out of the hole. I knew they were talented enough. I just couldn't sit through it. Thursday night's game was too intense as it was. I put the boys to bed, then checked the final score on my cell phone.

I'm sad, but not as bad as I have been in recent years. Getting beat by UCLA certainly carries no shame with it. We just weren't able to pull in the shots. We had a lot of open looks & played as good a defense as the Bruins, in my opinion. We didn't hit the 3-pointers they did and when we had to have shots fall - open or otherwise - they just wouldn't go in.

So, I'm going to grab something to eat and catch up on some Battlestar Galactica (that have been piling up on the TiVo for several weeks). Here's to hoping the loss leaves enough bitter taste in our mouths that Brandon Rush (or anyone else on the team, for that matter) decides to stick with college another year and give it another run next year.
